Variations of variations

I am trying to figure out how to configure my products under Kickstart.

I have a computer product, with a unique SKU. This product is used for various computer brands, so I don't need the SKU as a variation field, i.e., the unique product is available for various Dell computers, various HP computers, etc.

Can I/should I make a variation of a variation? So,

PRODUCT -> VARIATION WITH SKU -> HP model A variation, model B, etc.

The shopper looking for the product for his HP will buy the exact same product (same SKU) as the shopper looking for the product for his Dell.

Please advise.

You can create some product displays of the same product. So you create some product displays like "The Computer Product for Your HP Computer" and "The Computer Product for Your Dell Computer" and all of them points for the same product.

Excellent.

One thing I didn't mention is that the unique product can be named differently -- but that's OK because I can specify that in my display I assume.
