Testing site with fake credit card or sandbox

I am trying to create an online store that will only be selling downloadable content. I have no experince setting up a commerce system and I am wondering is there a way I can test the site? I want to put a sample item up and price it at $20 and then buy it to make sure I have everything set up but I dont want to REALLY buy it if that makes any sense.

Authorize.net also has a developer version. I'd be surprised if there are any payment methods that don't have a debug mode. They can be confusing though. Paypal's is totally confusing. You have to make sure you use completely different logins for the store side and the customer side, and don't use your real one at any time.

Thank you for that link I was able to set up a test site with paypal wps payment method. I am having an issue though I can does a user have to be registered with the site to buy? When I try to buy as an anon user I get page not found on redirect.
