The assumption is (I think) that products will be created by admins. There's currently no UI for changing the author of a product, although the information is there.
Should this be considered a bug? If I change the author of a product (to a non-admin), the author of the associated variations is not changed (and cannot be changed in the UI). So, the new author can edit the product but isn't able to edit or delete the variations. I would consider this undesirable behavior...

It will be nice to have it implemented somehow...for the purpose of marketplace.
