What's happening in the world of Drupal Commerce.

Commerce 1.16 released, 10 years on and going strong

Drupal Commerce achieved its first full release at DrupalCon London 2011. I remember working on it beside Damien Tournoud, Commerce Guys' CTO at the time - one of those rare true geniuses in his element helping me finalize a variety of last minute issues before we tagged and released. More than a few open source eCommerce projects have come and gone since then, but we haven't slowed down yet!

This past week, we packaged Commerce 1.16. It's been over two years since the last release as we've focused primarily on the Drupal 8/9 branch, Commerce 2.x. However, we still found time to make significant performance improvements and incorporate longstanding feature requests like including the order e-mail address when the order is rendered, supporting the deletion of old order and line item revisions impacting the performance of sites with a tremendous amount of orders, and more. For the full list of updates, please refer to the release notes.

Beta release for Commerce Discount 7.x-1.0

Commerce Discount improves Commerce 1.x by providing a custom entity type for managing Product and Order level discounts, including more complicated discounts like free shipping upgrades and BOGO offers. The module makes it easier for merchants to create promotions that would otherwise require the use of the Rules UI or even custom code, tasks that are similarly beyond the reach of most casual Drupal users.

Even as we've worked to improve the user experience even further in Commerce 2.x by making Promotions a core module, we continue to work to do to improve the experience for 1.x users. Today, after a month of focused contrib time at Commerce Guys team and review from end users like Thomas Jonas at the University of Minnesota, we're proud to announce the release of a long overdue beta version for the module.

Drupal 7 Commerce Sprint Month Retrospective

One month ago we kicked off the Drupal 7 Commerce Sprint. This sprint is an initiative to work on Drupal Commerce 1.x and contributed projects in the ecosystem. Every week we have held a scrum in the form of office hours in the #drupal-commerce IRC channel, along with a Google Hangout for those who want to sprint virtually together.

What has been accomplished?

We have had over twelve participants since the first office hours and averaged around five attendees each week. Thanks to these community members we’ve accomplished the following!

New / Updated modules

Drupal 7 Commerce Sprint

I'm excited to announce the arrival of a new phase of contribution for Drupal Commerce for Drupal 7. While there is a large group of developers focused on updating and readying Drupal Commerce for Drupal 8, there is still a need for many of us (me included!) to enhance and improve the current, stable version of Commerce. To that end, I'm helping to establish a regular update and refresh that is sponsored through my work at Commerce Guys.

The goal of the Commerce 7.x Sprint is to provide a common community push to sprint on the Drupal Commerce ecosystem at large. This will be handled using coordinated office hours in the Drupal-Commerce IRC channel and a new issue tag, commerce-sprint.
