I tried searching for this but could not find the answer

I am interested in using the check out functionality of commerce only . is that possible ?

I plan to build a classified site whereby users will be able pick and choose features to perk there ad such a) do they want to make it on the top row b) highlight the ad in a unique color or/and c) add more pictures . This classified will be based on a customized content type with several customized fields

so with the above, user will have 3 options or so to perk their ad and each perk they select has a fixed price. so once they pick their perk, I want commerce checkout to take over and process the payment before displaying their ad .

Is commerce the best tool to do this job ? or are there others like drupal ubercart?
