Is DC useable for/adaptable to internal stock search and management

Hi,

I recently started working at a company which has a dozen product ranges with between 20 and 100s of products (or product variations) in each range. I don't want to set up an online store though because almost all of the products (mining and construction materials and components) require customers to get assistance and a quote from an estimator.

But with so many products it's a pain to have to rifle through all of these hard copy catalogs and price lists. I would like to make all of our product and pricing information available, for internal employees, through the company's Drupal-based website/portal. It would also make creating quotes a lot easier.

My question then is: is Drupal Commerce useable or easily adaptable to this. I know about Drupal's taxonomy system so I can easily create the product ranges and product types and then import the data. But, does Commerce have a quote creation feature. It'd be sort of like using a cart but the user would select or enter the customer details, add products, modify the specs (if the client needs customizations made), adjust prices, apply discounts etc. and then create/print/email the quote?

If this is all easy enough to do then I will try to talk to the IT guys in the head office about installing the module so I can see what I can do with it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi

Yes, you can adapt DC to your needs.
Of course, what you need will require some work.
Somebody else submitted the same question sometime ago,
use drupal commerce site search and you'll find the discussion
thread about that.

Thanks

I tried searching but I couldn't find anything with the terms I used. Do you have a link to it or do you know what terms I should use?
