Create a new product type does now make it appear in product type list when creating a new product

I've installed a demo instance of kickstart2 with demo data.
I tried to add a product type -> it's displayed in the list of product types but not in the list of products when i add a new product.

Create a new content type with the word display at the end, e.g. Furniture display. Make sure that the field Product variation (originally called just Product) is included.

Save it and it will appear on the list when creating a new product. Then create a Product type with all the variations.

I'm still exploring this but it appears to work.

Update: you only have to create a new Content type. It doesn't have to have "display" in its name.
