Can't add a product type

Hi,

I have a shop without demo content. I want to create a product type because there is none yet. But I can't figure out how to do that.

If I go to admin/commerce/products/types/add , the pages does not exist.

The strange thing is, I can add products although there is not product type (therefor the product list remains empty).

Any help appreciated.

Hi everyone.

Posting this as a comment since multiple people remarked the same thing.

If you read the Commerce Backoffice project page, you will see:
"Disables the Commerce-provided "Product types" UI, and provides a custom "Product variation types" UI that contains additional help text, hides fields that are not used by the Inline Entity Form (help, description for each type), and provides the ability to create a matching node type for each created product variation type."

So yes, the product types tab & url are missing, intentionally.
Instead, you get the admin/commerce/config/product-variation-types page that is more user friendly.

I think it gets kind of dead on the weekends here but I'll try to help if you can bare with my questions? Is it commerce or commerce kickstart you're using and do you have the product and product ui modules turned on? I know simple questions but sometime things can be over looked. :)

Thank you. I have a Commerce Kickstart 1 Installation and continously updated all modules plus installed Backoffice to keep up with new features. It's a part of a multisite installation.

I haven't configured new product types for a while. Usually I go to Shop > Products to configure types and add new products. The only menu item I can see now is "Add new product".

Edit: As I disabled Backoffice, the content type functionality is back again. Now I can see a type "Product" and I can see the products which I have created previously. I wonder what's going on...

We're having the same problem. We have Commerce Kickstart with Commerce 1.4 and Commerce Backoffice 1.0. When the Commerce Backoffice Product sub-module us enabled, the Product Types tab in admin/commerce/products isn't there, and Store>Products>Product Types>Add Product Type isn't in the menu. Attempting to browse directly to admin/commerce/products/types or admin/commerce/products/types/add generates a Page Not Found error. Disabling the Product sub-module restores them. I'm not a programmer, so I can't tell any more, but I hope this is helpful.

bojanz, thank you for helping out. I have read the Backoffice page and the documentation here (which still describes the "old" way). I understood that the "old" UI was disabled in favour of a "new" UI.

What I didn't realise is that it wasn't replaced. Backoffice changes both the commerce admin menu structure and the wording. I think this should be communicated more clearly since these changes are pretty significant.

Adding to my confusion, Backoffice doesn't display product types (variations) that are not referenced by a display, what made me raise my eyebrows even more as I couldn't see the products I had created. At that point I felt kind of lost.

In the end the "new" concept makes sense and of course is beneficial and the right direction. But for those who aren't directly involved in the module development, it is hard to understand what's going on due to limited information.

This is my experience (for those who have the same questions): In the admin menu, the product configuration has been separated from the product management.

Creating a new type/variation is now in
Shop > Configuraion > Product variation type > Add product variation type

Adding a new product within a type/variation:
Shop > Products > Add products > (choose from one of your types/variations)

Creating a new product display type
Structure > Content types > Add content type

Adding a full product (display + variation/type) inline:
Content > Add content > (choose your product display content type)

Thanks Brian, that really helped me as I was going round in circles trying to figure it all out.

You're right the documentation here needs updating to reference commerce Back Office and the changes it makes to menus and wording

Hi there,
very strange and off topic but:
with the use of backoffice and the changes of the pathes try to set a multilanguage environment :-)
I tried it (with versions in an october 2013 direction) and there isn´t an option to set the use of entity translation for product types.
Guess how much time and frustration someone would have when there isn´t the described path AND no option in the backoffice view to set multilingual supprt :-)
so guys when you end up here when you search why the "admin/commerce/products/types" path is not existing, disable backoffice, set the multilingual option as described in the how to´s and reactivate backoffice after.

Drupal, no path, entity translation, missing option, can´t set multilingual support on products
