Add to cart button doesn't work in IE8

Whenever I try to click "Add to Cart" in IE8, the cart in the header doesn't update and just reads "empty" when the page reloads. This button works in all other browsers, though the client for this build requires IE8 so this is a major issue. Help?

I wouldn't consider this a major issue since Internet Explorer is very old and very rarely is it used any more in the wild. I also wouldn't recommend using it for commerce as there are some security issues that I don't believe were resolved.
