I have multiple products that have product variations going into the 1000s. What i want to know what is the best way to add these variations as my current setup is now freezing as the browser loads to much memory when adding more then 10 new variations
Best setup for 1000's of products on a reference field is to create a custom interface and turn off the product reference field. What we recommend for our clients that run into this problem is to create an Feeds / Migrate process that brings in a CSV-managed listing of SKUs -> Nodes.
Also, its possible that entity reference may have a widget in the Drupal-verse that can handle entity references in the thousands.

I ran into this with Firefox the other day while using inline entity form on a non-commerce project. I didn't have 1000s of variants but Chrome ran perfectly for the 50+. Probably worth a try if you're on firefox.
