About Fastly

Fastly’s content delivery network caches and instantly purges static, long tail, and rapidly changing dynamic content, as well as small objects and streaming video. Our real-time performance analytics and API-based tools give developers unprecedented control and flexibility over how they serve and monitor content online.

Commerce Guys, creators of Drupal Commerce, collaborated with Fastly to create a marketplace module to enhance your commerce solutions. Setting up your Drupal 7 site to use Fastly is quick and easy:

  1. Download and Install the Fastly Module

FASTLY MODULE Note that you must also enable the Rules, Entity Tokens, and Entity API modules before enabling the Fastly module.

  2. Sign up for a Fastly Account

The plugin’s configuration panel presents a form that allows you to set up your account quickly and easily. We also configure your site to be recognized by Fastly.

  3. Create a CNAME Record for your Domain

This step requires you to tell your domain registrar that you’d like to serve your content via Fastly. To do so, you’ll need to set or modify a CNAME record for your domain. This is a special type of DNS record that forwards all requests for your domain to Fastly. The setup process for CNAME records varies from provider-to-provider. For detailed information, please see our CNAME instructions.

Once you’ve finished these three simple steps, your Drupal Commerce site will be up and running on Fastly. In addition to automated purges, the module gives you access to more advanced features through the configuration section, including:

  • Purge by URL, key, or service

  • Set default time-to-live values for dynamic and static content

  • Override the default behavior and define additional URLs that should not be cached by Fastly

You will also get full access to the Fastly Control Panel, using the credentials you specified during signup. Through the app, you can customize your Fastly configuration as well as monitor and proactively respond to real-time performance analytics 24x7.

Fastly Core Features

Caching and Instant Purge

Fastly can cache any type of content, including static, long tail, and rapidly changing dynamic content, as well as small objects and streaming video. Our Varnish-based caches have up to 12x the performance and capacity of traditional caches; Varnish also allows you to deploy custom configurations and instantly purge any type of content -- including dynamic content -- in 150 milliseconds.

Origin Shield

With Fastly, you can cache more content on the edge, drastically reducing the load on your origin servers. This decreases infrastructure costs and frees up resources, making it easier for your team to scale and innovate faster.

Fastly’s API and Control Panel

Our API allows Fastly to act as an extension of your existing stack, giving you unprecedented control and flexibility over how you serve and monitor content online. The API powers the Fastly Control Panel, which lets you make custom configurations instantly and monitor performance analytics in real time with.

SSL

Fastly has four SSL service options using HTTPS requests—Shared Domain, Shared Certificate, Wildcard on Shared Certificate, and Customer Certificate Hosting.
